For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, The initials FFA stand for “FREE For All” and my advice would be don’t waste your time! FFA’s DON’T WORK!

FFA sites are directories where anyone can place their ad for free. And that’s exactly what you get–a zillion people posting free ads.

When you post your ad on an FFA directory or site, here’s what will happen. You’ll immediately get back in response to your ad a truckload of autoresponder e-mails from every Tom, Dick and Harriet soliciting you to join their programs. Hardly anyone ever actually reads your ad. FFA’s will produce next to zero new subscribers to your newsletter.

Here are some suggestions to help you build your newsletter subscriber list:

1. Put a subscriber box on your web site. People can easily enter their email address and send it to you. A percentage of people who visit your web site will sign up for your newsletter. Just don’t scare them off by asking for a lot of personal information. Put their minds at ease by promising not to share their e-mail address with anyone else.

2. Announce your newsletter in the e-zine announcement directories. There are several sites with searchable catalogues of ezines. These sites get lots of visitors and are a surefire way to find hundreds of new subscribers. Here are a few to get you started:

http://www.ezine-universe.com

http://www.escribe.com

http://www.ezine-marketing.com

3. Trade ads with other e-zines. Find newsletters that focus on topics similar to yours. They’ll run your ad in exchange for you running theirs.

4. Consider emailing a press release to the media. Your release should announce your newsletter and explain what’s interesting or helpful about your newsletter. There are a number of press release services that will email your release. Here are just a few:

http://www.ereleases.com

http://www.majon.com

http://www.majornewswire.com

http://submitexpress.com

Whatever you do, DON’T add people to your newsletter list who haven’t asked to be on it. The spam gods will come down on you like a ton of bricks! That’s why many newsletter publishers insist on double opt-in. What’s double opt-in?

Double opt-in is your protection against the sending of unsolicited email. For example, after visitors register at your site, they will receive a confirmation email. By replying to the confirmation email, your visitors have “double opted-in” which means that:

1. They are the owners of their email addresses

2. The address is working

3. They indeed want to subscribe

Usually the confirmation action is as simple as replying to the confirmation request or clicking on a link.

If you want to know exactly what people secretly (and sometimes even desperately) want you to sell to them, saving yourself tens of thousands of dollars and virtually eliminating sales resistance…then this article will show you how.

Listen to this:

When the vast majority of people go into business and try to sell something, they almost always spend a lot of their time and money trying to find customers for what they have to sell. When, in reality, they would cut the time it takes to make a profit in half…if they simply found out what their leads/prospects already want first…and then sold it to them. Making it 100% guaranteed they meet with a minimal amount of buying resistance, while spending less than half the advertising dollars.

Of course, that begs the question: How do you find out what people already want?

1.) Is it by guessing?

No. Guessing is an epic waste of your time, money and energy…and can be extremely frustrating. You might get lucky, but the odds are slim to none you’ll make much money — if any at all.

2.) Is it by sitting down and logically and rationally trying to “figure out” what people want?

This is almost as bad as guessing. Why? Because people simply don’t make their buying decisions with logic. They use raw emotion. No matter who you are…no matter what you’re buying…every buying decision you’ve ever made can be broken down to an emotional reason. Why? Because as a human being, you automatically use your “emotive” (right side) of your brain to make a buying decision, and your logical (left side) of your brain, to justify that decision.

3.) Is it by asking the market what they want?

Well, this is certainly better than guessing or logically trying to figure it out. But still, this is a flawed way of finding out what people want because people will almost always try to convince you (and themselves) they’re something they’re not. And because of this, they’ll tell you what they think you want to hear…and what they actually wish was true about themselves.

Take Hollywood, for example. How many Hollywood stars drive around in gas-guzzling SUV’s, fly in private jets and spend a fortune keeping their lawns watered and their houses lit up (even when they aren’t there) — draining hundreds of thousands of dollars in natural resources per year?

Answer: A LOT of them.

Yet, if you asked these same Hollywood stars if they’re concerned about the environment, almost all of them will say yes. In fact, if you read interviews with Hollywood stars, many of them think it’s one of the most important issues of the day.

It’s not just Hollywood stars who do this, either. We’re all the same way. We all want people to think we’re something we’re not. That we’re better than what we really are. There’s nothing right or wrong about this, it’s just human nature.

Now, if blind guessing, trying to figure it out logically and even asking people are not good ways to discover what they truly want and are willing to pay money for…then what is?

The answer is surprisingly simple: By observing what they’re already buying.

For example, if your leads/prospects bought a gazillion dollars worth of vitamins last year then there’s a more than decent chance they’ll respond to another vitamin offer you send. Or, if they spent a small fortune on fitness magazines and gear, then there’s an excellent chance they’ll jump all over an offer for yet another magazine or piece of fitness equipment. And so on and so forth.

It’s so simple, it’s almost hard to believe. But don’t let the simplicity fool you. Because finding your customers first, and then finding something to sell to them (that they already want) will make your life a hundred times easier and your profits a hundred times larger.

You’ve done the hardest part; you’ve captured your prospect’s email address. Now it is time to send your email to them. Most webmasters are thinking about what they are going to put in the email; how they are going to persuade the recipient to empty their wallet. This is all very well, but no matter how persuasive your sales letter is, if the email never gets opened, then it is useless. This is why the power of the subject line should never be underestimated. After the ‘from’ line in an email, the subject line is the next one that gets read. The subject line plays a huge part in whether an email gets read. Everyone is busy, especially more important people and so an email with a poor subject line is likely to be deleted. Here are a few ways to make your subject line extremely effective:

– Make your subject short and sharp. This will catch the attention and interest of the reader immediately. Be sure to use very positive words which recipients will want to hear such as free, guaranteed, profits and money. However, be careful that you do not give the impression that your email is an ad because this will immediately look like your email is spam and it will be deleted immediately. Keeping your subject short is also very important for the reason that many email programs cut off long subject lines. Keep it below 40 characters to avoid your subject line being cut off.

– Use your website’s brand name in the subject line. This will make your email sound important and impressive. It will also remind readers about your site and if your site made a positive impression on them when they first visited then they are likely to open your email to see what you have to say or offer.

– Use the recipients name in the subject line if you have that much information about them. It makes the email sound much more personal and will catch the recipient’s eye. Everyone likes being addressed personally too; it makes us feel special and individual. Making your recipient feel like this will immediately lead him to open your email with high expectations. Don’t disappoint! Another benefit of using the recipient’s name in the subject line is that they immediately know that it is unlikely to be spam and are therefore much more likely to open your email.

– Indent your subject line. ‘**** Here is a guaranteed way to easily make triple your annual income in under a month!’ is a lot more effective than the same title without the asterisks. It is a lot more effective because it will stand out hugely in an inbox with other unread messages. It will look out of place because it is not in line with other messages and this will lead it to immediately catch the recipient’s eye.

Really, you have to use your imagination. Imagine that you had 20 unread messages in your inbox. Which ones would you open first, and which ones would you delete. You have to remember that your email will be competing against many others for your prospect’s attention. Give the recipient of your email a reason to open your email over the others.
