Good times May Be Ahead for Online Poker Players in US

The U.S. House of Representatives is debating HR Bill 6870 that could come as early as September 22nd 2008. This means that their international counterparts may be seeing a return to the table so to speak of the American side of the poker en ligne freight train that has overtaken online casino card rooms everywhere.

Congressman Barney Frank is diligently fighting to reverse parts of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 passed by the United State Congress two years ago.

The bill sets out to define fully for financial institutions what exactly constitutes “Illegal Gambling in the United States,” which could possibly free up many of banks and escrow services from liability for negligence under the Act.

And so far Congressman Frank has received much report.

As for his argument, well it looks like commonsense finally struck someone in Washington. “Adults are entitled to do with their money what they want to do,” was the gist of the Congressman’s remarks.

If this bill passes through, then it will effectively halt the enforcement activities of the UIGEA until congress can redefine and rewrite the statues to fit the demands of the bill.

These are great times indeed for online poker players alike, as the return of legal US players to the ranks, means that there’s more money to be won, and more money to be made.

Perhaps it’s due time the House finally gives the citizens what they deserve: the return of their rights to do what they wish with their leisure time.
